Kurokawa, Bartolo take top honors in coconut recipe contests

Here are the results of the first-ever cooking contest at the Seventh Annual Kaua‘i Coconut Festival. The contest was held Saturday at Kapa‘a Beach Park.

First Course:

1. Bob Bartolo, Lemongrass chicken

2. Nalani Kaneakua (Papayas), Green papaya chowder

3. Ulu Breen, Mikayla’s salad

Last Course:

1. Nancy Kurokawa (Kaua‘i Marriott), Coconut cheesecake

2. Nalani Kaneakua (Papayas), Vegan coconut macaroons

3. Denise Lage, Coconut crème brulee with tropical fruit garnish

Overall winner:

Nancy Kurokawa (Kaua‘i Marriott), Coconut cheesecake
