Eighth graders from Kapa‘a Middle School undertook a major community-service project Friday morning.
About 200 of the students spent about an hour cleaning the white-sand beach that runs from Nukoli‘i Beach near the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort to the area near Kamalani Kai Bridge just south of Lydgate Park at Wailua.
The cleanup was part of the school’s “Pay It Forward” theme for the year, a program named for the popular film where a teacher starts a positive program that ends up doing an amazing amount of good for his community.
The program involves doing something nice for someone as a means of developing more positive student attitudes.
Traci Sullivan coordinated the corps of eighth-grade teachers who undertook the project.
