KAPA‘A — Being on the “right side of the road,” is definitely advantageous to Denise and Randy Roll who offer motorists traversing Kapa‘a “really good coffee, quick!”
The Rolls operate out of a converted Winnebago parked on Akoa Road between Kuhio Motors and Burger King in Kapa‘a, and operation Randy describes as “a drive-through coffee shop.”
Operating from 5:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, the Rolls have enjoyed many pleasant comments from motorists who enjoy the luxury of just driving up for a cup of wake-me-up juice to sip while negotiating traffic through Kapa‘a.
The Rolls reward these “regulars” with a coffee club card entitling a free cup with every five purchased.
Some of these commuter comments have included suggestions for the Rolls to expand their operation to other parts of the island, namely, Puhi and Lihu‘e, suggestions that the Rolls have taken seriously, but as of yet, not revealed how they would do it.
Randy says that their current location still leaves something to be desired as he knows he misses a lot of commuters who take the by-pass road on their trip to Lihu‘e.
As a demonstration of their mobility, at the last drag races held at the Mana Raceway Park, the Rolls had their Winnebago on hand at the spectator parking lot, joining Rosie’s Lunchwagon and Big Toe Shaved Ice with an offering of coffee, Island Oasis smoothies, and an assortment of finger foods including hot dogs and nachos.
After 10:30 a.m., the Rolls pack up and drive away to their “bill paying jobs.”
