Natasha Kai, pulled early in their match against CS Northridge due to the heat, came back in the second half to score the “golden goal” and assisted on the second goal to power the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine past the Matadors on Sept. 5.
The Matadors capitalized on the home field advantage, outshooting Hawai‘i 8-4 in the first half with UH failing to launch any kind of an attack, that situation worsening as Kai was pulled from the match 35 minutes in.
UH picked up the pace in the second half, and Kai, re-entering at the 73rd minute, made things happen as she received the ball on the left side, headed it forward, eluded one defender before curving a right-footed shot from a dozen yards out.
The score was Kai’s third goal of the season.
UH got an insurance goal from Sasha Araya-Schraner who was fed by Kai streaking down the right wing, receiving the pass from Robyn deHay.
The Rainbow Wahine travel to Long Beach State to take on the 49ers in another non-conference contest.
That game will take place on Sept. 7 starting at 2 p.m. (PST).
