WAIMEA — Host Waimea High School and the Kapa‘a Warriors opened their bid in the Waimea High School Invitational boys volleyball tournament with wins early Thursday morning, the Menehune getting past Damien 21-16, 21-17 while the Warriors took care of Waimea White 21-9, 21-14 in round robin play.
Kaua‘i High School dropped their opening bid to Iolani 17-21, 14-21 as tournament officials worked to revise the schedule after two JV teams dropped out at the last minute.
The Menehune picked up their second win in the morning by handling the Kapa‘a JV 21-10, 21-10 with the junior Warriors splitting their Iolani JV matchup, 17-21, 21-16.
Iolani, after beating Kaua‘i, went on to take Hawai‘i Baptist 21-15, 21-11.
Round robin play features Iolani, Waiakea, Hawai‘i Baptist, Waimea White (JV), Kaua‘i, Kapa‘a and Pearl City purple in the Blue Pool while Seabury Hall, Kamehameha-Hilo, Damien, Kapa‘a JV, Waimea, Iolani JV, and Pearl City white making up the White Pool.
Tournament format is rally scoring to 21.
Round robin play continues Friday starting at 9 a.m. with the elimination rounds beginning some time Friday afternoon.
Championship game is tentatively scheduled to begin between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Saturday.
