Rookies stay undefeated in second round of action

The final week of the Kauai Sr. Citizen Softball League with games played at Wailua Ball Field on Saturday has the Rookies go undefeated with a win over Kawaihau 25-7 as Archie Fontanilla got his tenth win on 10 starts.

Ken Tamashiro got the loss as Rookies’ Nelly Mendonca and Hank Nishikawa both hit 2-run home runs going 4-for-5.

Walter Souza got a solo shot and Stan Dela Cruz added 3 hits.

Kawaihau – Ken Tamashiro got a 2-run homer on a 3-for-3 day. Pairing hits were Cal Fujita, Ron Alfonso and Luis Nuesco.

Kawaihau took 8 innings to take a 18-17 win over West Kauai. Paul Gusman came on in relief of Ken Tamashiro for the win for Kawaihau. Joe Silva in relief of Frank Bukoski was the loser.

Steve Fuji led Kawaihau with 4 hits. Ron Alfonso and Paul Awazu with 3.

Frank Bukoski hit two 2-run homers. Larry Ephan added a 2-run homer on 3 hits, Bob Merkel a solo shot and Danny Manns with 3 hits.

Lihue “A”s took a 15-10 win over East Kauai. Joe Brun went the distance for the win. Walter Silva with the loss.

Shige Oshiro cracked a 2-run homer on 3 hits while both Joe Brun and Dwight Fujii with 3 hits.

East Kauai Alex Youn went 3-for-3 and all pairing hits were Les Kubo, Don Boro and Al Salvador. K-Makules’ Dado Paiste gave up only 3 hits to Kuku’s Aces to get the win as Ben Callijo was bombed 23-2.

John Tabanair got a home run on 4 hits while Guy Ruiz blasted a homer on 3 hits and Stan Buduan added a 2-run homer.

The Kuku’s Aces 3 hits were Bye “Lelo” Ruiz, “Pancho” De Costa, and Ben Callejo.

Lihue “A”s wrapped up runner-up honors by belting Kuku’s Aces 16-1 in the final game.

Buster Matsuyama got the win, Stan Rita took the loss. Tomo Hiranaka went 5-for-5, Ismo Yoshishige and Shige Oshiro got 4-for-5. “Kaleo” Furtado went 3-for-3 to lead the Aces.
