Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste’s series of Ka Leo O Kauai community meetings enters its fourth month tonight with meetings in Hanalei and Lihue.
The first two months of the meetings were used to take input from the community, and the May meetings focused on prioritzing issues to work on. All communities completed the task except for Kapaa.
Meetings this month are to focus on discussing the concerns highlighted in the prior meetings.
Baptiste says he is holding the meetings to build strong communities. He said government cannot alone solve the island’s problems and a single resident in the community cannot solve the problems.
Tito Castillo and Nadine Rapozo are now publishing a Wailua Houselots, newsletter that provides information from the meetings to area residents.
In addition, “street captains” for Wailua Houselots are being chosen within and rides to the Ka Leo O Kaua’i meeting are being offered.
In other updates, the Poipu Beach community is now attending the Koloa community meetings, instead of holding their own.
The Anahola community meeting, usually scheduled on the second Wednesday of each month, is instead scheduled for June 25. This change was voted on by members of the community, due to the King Kamehameha holiday, and is only applicable for June.
