Students from Wilcox Elementary School in Lihue are representing Kauai in a statewide effort to sew a total of 40,000 to 50,000 lei for the annual Memorial Day observances held across the state at veterans’ cemeteries.
According to a report from the state Department of Education, Wilcox Elementary is known to produce one of the highest count of lei of any of the schools taking part in the effort.
This year six public schools are participating, including Lokelani Elementary School on Maui, Kohala Middle School and Haaheo Elementary School on the Big Island.
