Drug abuse in Puhi-Hanamaulu region subject of tonight’s Drug Summit’
The second in Mayor Bryan Baptiste’s series of five regional “Drug Summit” meetings is scheduled for today.
The meeting is to focus on drug abuse problems faced by residents of Lihue, Puhi and Hanamaulu. The public forum starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort.
Gary Shimabukuro of Laulima Hawaii is the scheduled main speaker tonight. Shimabukuro is an expert speaker on combating drug abuse in Hawaii.
The mayor’s first public-invited “drug summit meeting” was held Saturday, May 10 at the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa and featured speaker Mike Young of Wave Rides Against Drugs.
A North Shore summit is scheduled for Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Prince Clubhouse. Congressman Ed Case is the scheduled keynote speaker.
The federal “Weed and Seed” illicit drug eradication program is expected to be a main subject at the Kawaihau District summit set for Thursday, May 29 at the Kapaa Elementary School Cafeteria. The program is set to run from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
A West Kauai summit is planned for the Waimea Plantation Cottages on Saturday, May 31 from 8 a.m.-noon. Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona is the invited speaker.
