SBA winners to be honored this week
The Kaua’i winners of various U.S. Small Business Association small business awards will join other winners from across the state at the SBA’s 16th Annual Statewide Awards Luncheon, set for this Wednesday, April 30, at the Sheraton Waikiki Resort.
Finance Factors boss to get award
Russell J. Lau, chief executive officer of Finance Factors, Ltd., will this Wednesday, April 30, receive the Hope Award from representatives of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Hawai’i division, at the MS Dinner of Champions on O’ahu. The company will be recognized for over 50 years of community service and contributions to the people of Hawai’i. Finance Factors has a Kaua’i office in Kukui Grove Commercial Village.
City Bank officials mulling CPB offer
In a letter to shareholders, officials of City Bank and parent company CB Bancshares, Inc., said they are giving “serious consideration” to an unsolicited takeover proposal from rival Central Pacific Bank and its parent, CPB, Inc., but “will not rush to judgment.”
CB Bancshares and City Bank officials are “carefully and thoroughly evaluating the proposal,” said Lionel Y. Tokioka, board chairman of both CB Bancshares and City Bank, and Ronald K. Migita, president and chief executive officer of CB Bancshares and vice president and chief executive officer of City Bank.
Many cruise ships call on Nawiliwili
The Legend of The Seas, an 867-foot-long cruise ship, calls on Nawiliwili Harbor twice this week, including today, Sunday, April 27, scheduled to arrive at 7 a.m. and leave at 3 p.m. the same day, and call again this Tuesday, April 29, arriving at 7 a.m. and leaving at 6 p.m.
The Europa, a 651-foot-long ship, is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, Monday, April 28, at 6:30 a.m., leaving at 5:30 p.m. the same day. On Wednesday, April 30, the 959-foot-long Carnival Spirit is scheduled to call, arriving at 7 a.m. and leaving at 6 p.m. the same day. Volunteers are always welcome to help greet all arriving cruise ships, including the 965-foot-long Norwegian Star, which calls each Saturday at 7 a.m., and leaves at 4 p.m. the same day. HVCB wins award for meeting service
The Hawai’i Visitors & Convention Bureau received an award of excellence from Corporate and Incentive Travel magazine, for the bureau’s service to the meetings and incentive travel industry last year. The award was given based on a poll of magazine subscribers.
Tax breaks for hiring disabled
Employers can get tax breaks for hiring people with disabilities, said Elaine L. Chao, U.S. Department of Labor secretary. Representatives from the department’s Office of Disability Employment reminded employers that there are several tax credits and deductions available for hiring the disabled, or removing barriers for persons with disabilities in the workplace. Hawaiian has online vacation packages
Hawaiian Airlines officials recently announced the carrier has expanded online benefits to customers with the introduction of vacation packages and cruises through the company’s new program, Hawaiian Airlines Vacations.
