Baab, Watabu, and Wise pace KIF golfers

LIHU’E – Allan Baab and Kellen Watabu of Kaua’i High School paced the boys team in the most recent KIF golf outing played Saturday at the Mokihana Course at Kaua’i Lagoons.

Baab carded a 36 front end, and finished the day at 74, just a stroke ahead of Chad Nonaka who came up a stroke better than Baab on the back nine, carding a 37 to Baab’s 38.

Watabu bested that battle with a 36-stroke back nine for a day-ending 74.

Baab and Nonaka were joined by scores from Watabu and Abraham Akutagawa for their team high 300 strokes.

AJ Basuel of Kapa’a matched Nonaka’s back end performance to lead the Warriors at 76 with Tom Hashimoto of Waimea High School leading the Menehune at 84.

Hashimoto, Grant Kagawa, Marjovic Solvia, and Mason Koetje fueled Waimea’s 328-stroke team showing.

Bronson Fernandez, Keoki Saiki, and Keoni Gabriel joined Basuel for their 352-stroke team performance.

Sean Ogawa of Kula carded a 75.

Lehua Wise carded a field-high 69 to lead the Kaua’i High School girls followed by Terra Bell carding a 76 and Jennie Pleas finishing at 78 for a team total of 223 strokes.

Robin Nakata was the sole Waimea individualist, finishing the day at 102, and AJ Nakamura represented Kapa’a at 79 strokes.

The next KIF golf match is scheduled for Friday, March 28 at the Poipu Bay Golf Course starting at 11:30 a.m.
