Two people were sent to the emergency room at Wilcox Memorial Hospital following a two-car crash at the intersection of Ahukini Road and Kapule Highway about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The driver of a blue Nissan Frontier, which was damaged on the left-front bumper, was transported to Wilcox, as was the passenger.
The other vehicle involved was a silver Nissan Altima; the driver was the lone passenger. He was checked out by American Medical Response paramedics who placed a neck brace on him and were going to stabilize him with a backboard, but he refused treatment.
Personnel from Lihu’e Fire Station No. 3 and Kaua’i Police officers responded. Neither vehicle was found to be a fire hazard or had any glass broken. Police directed traffic until rescue units left the scene, until about 5 p.m. Traffic was backed up from the stoplights nearly to the Kapule/Rice Street junction.
In an unrelated incident at Wailua Bridge Saturday night, two victims were transported to Wilcox following a head-on collision.
The victims remained hospitalized as of Monday afternoon; one is listed in good condition and the other in fair condition.
