Several trees and shrubs will be given away Saturday, Nov. 23, during the annual Kaua’i Arbor Day Plant Giveaway. The event will be held this year at the Kukui Grove parking lot between Macy’s and Burger King from 9 a.m.
Several trees and shrubs will be given away Saturday, Nov. 23, during the annual Kaua’i Arbor Day Plant Giveaway.
The event will be held this year at the Kukui Grove parking lot between Macy’s and Burger King from 9 a.m. to noon.
The plants and trees will be supplied by Kauai Nursery and Landscapingand will be in 1 gallon pots. Compost will be supplied to aid in the establishment of the plants.
The plants to be given away on a first-come, first-served basiswill include: Shrubs: Native white hibiscus (Hibiscus waimeae) and a native red hibiscus (Hibiscus clayii), Kului ( useful for Haku lei making), and Akia ( excellent water conserving shrub).
Trees will include Native Kou, and Pritchardia Pacifica palms.
An information booklet will be provided courtesy of Hawaiian Electric Company. Planting information and cultural tips will be provided by Kauai Nursery and Landscape and Kauai Outdoor Circle volunteers.
Kauai’s Arbor Day Plant Giveaway is being organized by Kauai Nursery and Landscaping Inc.and the Outdoor Circle, and is sponsored by the Kaulunani Urban Forestry Grant Program/ DLNR and Hawaiian Electric Co.
