LIHUE – It was an Irish-dominated affair at the 2002 Kaua’i Open Handball Tournament, which took place last weekend at the Kaua’i Athletic Club in Lihue.
The tourney hosted 70 players of people from various locations, including Haruo Ikeda, who traveled from Tokyo, along with competitors from California, Georgia, Washington, Colorado and the other Hawaiian islands.
Irishman Joe Tierney of San Francisco won the Singles division and later teamed with Barry McWilliams of Ireland to win the Open Doubles division.
Mike Olson of Kaua’i also had a successful outing, placing second in both the Men’s B Singles and Men’s Masters (40+).
