A statewide group seeking to keep reusable material out of landfills in Hawai’i – including the Kekaha Landfill – has scheduled a forum on recycling at the Kauai Resource Center in Lihu’e on Monday, Oct. 28.
The “reuse” forum at 3460 Ahukini Road that will be hosted by Aloha Shares Network is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to noon that day.
The public has been invited to find out the benefits of recycling goods and their reuse.
Aloha Shares, a statewide reuse cooperative, was developed by the Maui Recycling Group, Baseyard Hawaii, state Deportment of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Rural Community Assistance Corp., the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9, the Public Works and Waste Management department with Maui County.
One forum was scheduled for the Big Island On Oct. 16. One is planned for Maui on Oct. 30 and another is planned for Oahu on Nov. 1.

The Kauai Resource Center, which opened in April, is operated by Island Recycling through a contact with Kaua’i County.
Island has shipped of island corrugated cardboard, ledger paper, magazines, aluminum cans, tires and wooden pallets.
With the use of bins from Waimea to Princeville, the goods are collected through the Kauai Recycles residential recycling program.
