Kaua’i’s Nonaka near top of leaderboard at Waikoloa

WAIKOLOA – Kaua’i’s Chad Nonaka shot a stipulated round (11 holes, par 43) of 46 Saturday to finish second on the leaderboard in the Boys 13-14 division of the HSJGA Tour Series at Waikoloa Kings Golf Course.

Nonaka was two strokes behind Big Island’s Jacob Low, who shot a 44.

Other Kaua’i finishers for 13-14 boys: Bret Netzer shot a 48, Brandon Hirota a 57.

Kauaian Layne Morita shot a 67 in a stipulated round (15 holes, par 59), which left him tied for fifth with three others in the boys 15-18 bracket.

Oahu’s Kurt Nino and Travis Toyama each shot a 61 to lead the age group. Other Kauaians: Landon Peeren finished with a 75.
