LIHUE – The Hana Hou shut out Rainbow Sports in the final six innings to win 3-1 and capture the 2002 HGEA Championships Thursday at Isenberg Park in Lihue.
The Hana Hou jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first inning and sealed the win with a run in the seventh to grab the title. Paris Resinto allowed just four hits to notch the win. Lance Nakata took the loss for Rainbow Sports Kaua’i.
Brenn Nakaahiki led the Hana Hou with two singles. Seven other members of the championship team notched one hit.
Wendell Nonaka had two singles and one RBI for Rainbow Sports.
The Rainbow Sports played in a playoff game with KFD prior to title bout, winning 5-4 with the help of a four-run fifth inning.
Lance Nakata took the win for Rainbow Sports. Gregg Morishige took the loss for KFD.
Hughes Ebinger led Rainbow Sports with three singles and one RBI. Vince Nitta had two singles and one double. Lance Nakata had two singles. Four other batters each had one single.
For KFD, Corey Sakai and Alan Saiki each had two singles and one RBI. Four other batters each added a single.
