Planning on coming home, at least to Hawai’i, and working as a broadcast journalist, is Duane Shimogawa, Jr., seen here (right) on the set of the student television station at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash.
Born and raised on Kaua’i, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Shimogawa, Sr., of Kipu. He is one of the anchors of the student TV news show. He recently started his senior year, and hopes to graduate next year with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.
Just in time for senior-year expenses, he received a $2,500 scholarship from the Hawai’i Association of Broadcasters. Around 20 of the awards are given annually, to outstanding students planning on working in the industry in Hawai’i. More information is at www.hawaiibroadcasters.com.
