Members, above, of the Kaua’i Westside Watershed Council discuss items of relevance to the environment and ecosystems of Kaua’i’s westside during their meeting Tuesday afternoon at Salt Pond. Among the items discussed were the reopening of beach access to the PMRF sites as well as the discovery of a mysterious white, fiberous substance, that the point of a ball pen gives scale to. It was discovered in the Hanapepe and Waimea rivers by a member of the Kaua’i Westside Watershed Council who was routinely checking the condition of the rivers’ tributaries. Samples were brought to the council’s meeting at Salt Pond on Tuesday and have been submitted for testing with the state’s DLNR as well as Aquatics Resources offices.
