It ain’t over yet.
West Kaua’i came back from its loss earlier in the week to top Lihue 10-6 and force a game three of the Mustang League Sectionals best-of-three series Saturday morning.
Lihue will face West Kauai in Lihue on Sunday morning for the rights to play in the Mustangs regionals. Game time is slated for 10 a.m.
West Kauai struck early and looked back only for a moment.
In an explosive four-run second inning, Kalana Arroya gave West Kauai a jump-start with an RBI single that scored Jordan Garcia from third. Moments later, Christopher Kaiakapu ran home on a wild pitch and Jared Fernandez smacked an RBI double to score Arroyo. West Kaua’i led Lihue 4-0 after two.
In the top of the third, West Kaua’i notched two more runs: an RBI-single from Garcia to score Richard Davenport, and on a balk which brought Garcia home from third.
Lihue was down 6-0, but never quit.
Two West Kauai errors sent Jessica Iwata and Rysan Sakamoto home from second and third to cap a two-run third inning.
Sakamoto would return in the fifth with an RBI-single to score Iwata, and a sacrifice RBI from Christian Largo and a wild-pitch dash from Christian Fort climbed Lihue to within one run of West Kauai – 6-5.
But that’s when the run ended.
West Kauai scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to end all hopes for a Lihue sectionals wrap-up.
A pitcher balk scored Trent Allianic. Davenport notched an RBI-double to score Michael Acoba and Garcia, before he reached home for the fifth run, had an RBI-single which scored Davenport. It was 10-5 after six.
Dalston Miyasato would score Lihue’s last run in the seventh to end the game.
On to game three….
