Autopsy results on Walter Robert “Fig” Mitchell have led Kaua’i police to initiate a murder investigation.
Mitchell, 60, of Kuhio Hwy. in Kapa’a, was found dead in his home after his upstairs neighbor called for police assistance on Monday, June 10. His neighbor would not comment on circumstances surrounding her call to the police.
On the afternoon of Friday, June 7, Mitchell called police to report that someone entered his house and stole his wallet. According to Kaua’i Police Department Chief Investigator Gordon Isoda, further investigation will show whether this event is related to Mitchell’s death.
Police reported earlier that Mitchell’s body was found with injuries; police did not comment on the nature of those injuries.
The Kaua’i Police Department is asking anyone with information about Mitchell’s death to call the Investigative Services Bureau at 241-6763.
