HONOLULU (AP) — The Coast Guard was searching for a missing man whose overdue power catamaran was located Sunday 16 miles off the Oahu’s Waianae Coast.
Mark Brewer, 47, set sail from Nawiliwili Harbor on Kauai on Friday, bound for Ko Olina Harbor on Oahu, officials said. He was scheduled to arrive Friday night, and had planned to participate in a canoe race, they said.
But Brewer’s son contacted the Coast Guard on Saturday night, when he failed to receive confirmation of his father’s arrival.
The Coast Guard cutter Kittiwake took the 22-foot catamaran in tow after a rescue aircraft located the boat.
Coast Guard officials said the Kittiwake, a C-130 aircraft and a rescue helicopter would continue the search for Brewer throughout Sunday night.
