When the parent company of Macy’s purchased Liberty House less than a year ago, it promised to help promote the islands as well as its newly acquired stores.
And it didn’t take them long to deliver on that promise.
As part of its year-long effort to promote Hawai’i as the ideal destination for weddings, honeymoons, and romantic getaways, launched in February this year, Macy’s has arranged for KRON 4, one of Northern California’s highest-rated TV stations, to shoot its morning show on Kaua’i today and tomorrow, Sunday, May 19 and Monday, May 20, for shows to run in the San Francisco Bay Area weekday mornings next week.
The crew arrived yesterday, Saturday, May 18, and will also do shows from O’ahu and Maui.
Scenes and activities scheduled to be filmed on this island include Sheraton Kauai Resort, a catamaran ride aboard Captain Andy’s Sailing Adventure, wedding reception at the hotel, keiki hula with members of the Doric Yaris ‘ohana and his Kaleo Club International, a helicopter ride out of Princeville Airport on Heli USA Airways, and Princeville golf courses, as well as others.
Mr. Flowers, Bill Dodge, will provide floral arrangements for the wedding reception.
For the KRON Hawai’i show, Macy’s Bridal and Service partners include Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii, Aloha Airlines, Budget Car & Truck Rentals, and Hawai’i Visitors and Convention Bureau. Fashion partners include Ann Namba Designs and Princess Ka’iulani Fashions.
Macy’s store on Kaua’i is at Kukui Grove, and the computerized Bridal and Gift Registry service there allows customers to shop for those planning weddings all over the world.
The show’s host is Joey Altman, host of KRON’s “Bay Cafe” and The Food Network’s “Appetite for Adventure,” and owner of Wild Hare, a Bay Area restaurant.
Along for the shows also are anchors of “KRON 4 Morning News,” one of the highest-rated morning programs in the Bay Area.
The idea behind the taping is to show the island’s thriving wedding and honeymoon industries, which is a Kaua’i tourism marketing professional’s dream come true.
The Kaua’i Visitors Bureau decided a few years ago to promote the island to the niche market of romance, wedding and honeymoon travelers, and that strategy fits like a glove with Macy’s year-long campaign, “The Perfect Marriage,” which promotes Hawai’i as the ideal wedding and honeymoon destination.
“Having Hawai’i as the focal point of Macy’s ‘The Perfect Marriage’ promotion has been so well received by our customers throughout the western U.S. that we wanted to continue to bring the romance of the islands to those of us who can only dream about living in paradise,” said Shonaree Michael, marketing and promotions manager, Macy’s West Special Services.
“Through the ‘KRON 4 Morning News,’ audiences throughout Northern California will see all that Hawai’i has to offer for romance, fun, and adventure.”
Taping of the show begins today at the Sheraton Kauai along Po’ipu Beach, where Altman and crew are staying. He is showcasing island trends in wedding ceremonies and receptions, as well as featuring some outdoor activities that couples can enjoy while on romantic vacations.
A total crew of six people are occupying five rooms at the hotel.
Through Macy’s “The Perfect Marriage” campaign, Hawai’i’s visitor industry is receiving national exposure through Macy’s extensive Bridal and Gift Registry service, in-store promotions, online at www.MacysWeddingChannel.com, newspapers and radio stations, direct mail, and special gift CDs given to brides who register with Macy’s Bridal Registry Consultants.
As part of the campaign, Macy’s also gave away 19 Hawai’i wedding and honeymoon packages. For more information about Macy’s Bridal and Gift Registry service, including upcoming events, please call toll-free 1-888-92-BRIDES, (922-7433), or log onto www.MacysWeddingChannel.com.
