LEILEHUA – Kamehameha broke Waiakea’s four-year winning streak, taking the team championship at the David S. Ishii State Boys Golf Championships at Leilehua. Christian Akau was the Warriors low scorer, finishing with a two day, even par 144.
Waiakea’s Jarett Hamamoto won his second straight individual championship, shooting 74 the second day to finish at four under par — four strokes better than Iolani’s Matthew Ma, Hawaii Prep’s Burt Bonk, and Akau.
Kaua’i’s boys finished fifth in team overall. Individually, Eric Wong (81, 71-152); Alan Baab (77, 76-153); Bret Netzer (82, 74-156); Justin Thomas came in 51st; Billy Toy (83, 80-163); Stephen Peeren (82, 82-164); Abraham Akutagawa (82, 82-164); Ashford Rita (83, 86- 169).
