Only Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation girls made the final eight in the HHSAA State Track Meet in Mililani, and they will compete in the last heat with the best Track and Field athletes in Hawaii on Saturday.
Waimea’s Erin Castillo tops the list with a fifth-place seat in the discus throw. Her 110-foot, five-inch throw brought her to the final eight, and will complete against Kahuku’s Ashley Fely, who threw 132-feet, two-inches. Castillo also made the championship heat for the Girls Shot Put, where she placed eighth with the throw of 31-feet, 11.75 inches.
Kapa’a’s Jackie Huttger jumped the four-foot nine inch qualifying height to move on to the finals.
Warrior Sharlene Carillo took seventh with a 27.11 200-meter dash. She will run in the finals.
Kaua’i’s Kandice Cummings made the finals with a 16.83 in the 100-meter hurdles, which put her in the eighth spot.
And the Kapa’a High School 4×100 relay, with Huttger, Carillo, Tiana Laranio and Elizabeth Kain moved into the eighth spot with a time of 52.66.
No boys made the finals. Full results will be printed in a future edition of TGI.
