Senior Softball League battles on Isenberg Field in Lihue

The Kaua’i Senior Citizens Softball League played another three-game series at Isenberg Field in Lihue on Saturday.

The two top dogs, the Rookies and the Lihue A’s, clashed in a battle for the first round championship in game one, and it looks like the new guys had it their way.

Archie Fontanilla pitched and batted the Rookies to the first round championship title, hitting a homerun on three hits, to lead his team to a 19-10 win over the A’s.

All in all, the Rookies had 23 hits: Richard Vidinha has a home-run on four hits; Dickie Sialana and Hank Nishikawa had three hits apiece.

For the A’s, Tomo Hiranaka went a perfect 4-4; Dwight Fujii had three hits.

In the second game, West Kaua’i bombed on East Kaua’i 23-5. Frank Bukoski got the win and Walter Silva took the loss.

Big sticks for West Kaua’i: Danny Manus had two homers on three hits; Mike Floster had one homer; Boni Garma, Pat Davao and Ricky Caveiro all had three hits.

Big sticks for East Kaua’i: Walter Silva, Ronnie Holt and Ed Bales each had two hits.

In the final game at Isenberg, ace Jay Acoba led the K-Makules to an 18-9 win over Kawaihau, and hence took third place in the first round.

Ben Pescador socked a three-run homer on three hits; John Tabaniar also had three hits; and pairing hits were Ernie Domingo, Tada Hashimoto, Marvin Perry, Pancho DeCosta and Lefty Ramata.

Teddy Daligdig got the loss even with his perfect 4-4 at the plate. Joe Penderqest and William Sasan each had three hits; Louis Nuesco and Tamashiro both paired hits.
