A PADDLER in the field of 75 participants in the first Kaua’i Relay event works his Wave Blade through the shoreline chop in Wailua on Sunday as he makes his way to the start line that was moved offshore for safety reasons due to the increase in shorebreaks and winds. Spectators said these one-man craft are so brittle a single wrong hit from a shorebreak could snap it in half. The race featured four legs and was sponsored by the Marriott Vacation Club and the Kaua’i Hoe Waa. Results will be printed in a future edition of TGI.
