Blossom Pauahi White Kauanui of Anahola, Uahala died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 3, 2002, at the age of 76.
Born on O’ahu on Nov. 24, 1925, she moved to Kaua’i after marrying her now deceased husband, Joseph Kauanui Jr. During her years on Kaua’i she worked for the pineapple cannery in Kapa’a, as a tour guide for Durante’s Tour Company, Mackenzie’s Tour Company and then for Greyline’s Tour Company until her retirement.
She is most remembered as being an entertainer. She was an entertainer at Coco Palm’s Hotel, with the Latter-Day Saint Church Choir. She also had her own show there, with her family, known as Blossom’s Kissing Cousins. She was known as “Big Blossom.”
She was also a very active member of the Hawaiian organization, Alu Like, as well as the Latter-Day Saint Church in Kapa’a.
She is survived by four sons: Joseph Kauanui III of California; Patrick P. (Beverly) Kauanui of Anahola; Vern L.K. Kauanui of Kapa’a; and Emery K. Kauanui of Anahola. She also had a, now deceased son, Burl F. White. Two daughters: Darlene K. (Henry) Kanoho of Anahola and Maile Ann (Cookie) Battad Robins of Moloka’i.
She had 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with the service to follow on Saturday, April, 20, at the Kapa’a Latter-Day Saint church Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
