Ninth Annual St. Theresa’s Sunset Run Set for Saturday 13 April 2002
The 9th running of the St. Theresa’s Sunset run is set for Saturday 13
April 2002.
Billed as the “Westernmost 5K in the USA,” the run draws runners from Kaua’i, all over Hawaii, and also usually attracts mainland vacationers.
In addition to the 5K run or walk event, entrants can also sign up for a one-mile race for both adults and children. The event is held in conjunction with the St. Theresa’s Carnival, with the awards ceremony immediately preceding the opening events for the second day of the carnival on Saturday.
T-shirts are provided for all who sign up. Day of race entrants will receive their shirts the week following the event or on race day, supplies permitting. The shirts, as usual, are a work of art by Rainbow Screen-Printing in Waimea.
The Mayor Mary Ann Kusaka trophy will be presented to the first place male and the Kaua’i County Council Trophy will be presented to the first place female. Both trophies are impressive wooden bowls engraved with event details. All age group winners receive a personalized ribbon with finishers receiving a personalized ribbon also.
As one of the premier running events on Kauai, the Sunset Run kicks off at 4 PM with registration to begin at 2 PM.
For information runners can contact St. Theresa’s School at 337-1351 or John Glover at 332-8025.
Interested runners can also register on line at www.active.com. As with previous years, race results will be published in the Garden Island.
