State Sen. Jonathan Chun has scheduled a public briefing on Wednesday, April 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chiefess Kamakahelei school cafeteria in Lihu’e.
The briefing is being held to clarify issues concerning the new Hawaii Employer-Union Health Benefits Trust Fund (public employees health benefits).
Attending the briefing with Chun will be Sen. Colleen Hanabusa, Vice Chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, Sen. Bob Nakata, Chair of the Senate Labor Committee, Neal Miyahira, Director of the state Department of Budget and Finance, and a state health fund consultant.
“After hearing from many constituents about the new health benefits trust fund it is clear that a public briefing should be held in order to provide clarification about this new program” said Chun.
“There are many misconceptions about the trust fund. We want to insure the continued ability of the state to offer good health coverage to all employees and retirees – this is a commitment we made to our employees and this public forum is a great opportunity for concerned individuals to hear about the fund and ask questions directly to the State’s experts,” said Chun.
