A flood watch, periodic heavy rainfall and a chance of thunderstorms were all part of the drenching rain that soaked Kaua’i from coast to coast on Sunday.
On Sunday evening the National Weather Service reported only moderate rainfall amounts at the regularly reporting rain gages, with heavier showers moving northward and just to the west of Kaua’i and over Ni’ihau.
Satellite images showed more heavy showers well to the south and southwest of Kaua’i and Ni’ihau that could hit overnight.
At noon on Sunday the weather service warned of a severe thunderstorm threatening the Barking Sands area, and suggested that local residents move indoors and prepare for strong gusty winds and lightning.
The National Weather Service said it will continue to monitor the situation and issue warnings if flooding becomes imminent.
The forecast for today and Tuesday show mostly cloudy with scattered showers, and still a chance of heavy showers or thunderstorms. The highs will be in the mid to upper 70s and lows 65 to 70 with south winds 10 to 20 mph.
