Kaua’i’s visitor industry is continuing to rebound from the downturn following the terrorist attacks of September 11.
While the overall February visitor count compared to Feb. 2001 is down about 2.2 percent, with 84,703 visitors arriving last month, other key segments of the industry are improving.
Kaua’i-only visits are up 10.5 percent to 32,907 visitors for February, and up 3.5 for the year so far, while Canadian visitor arrivals by air are up 105 percent for February to 7,894.
Cruise ship passenger counts are up 82 percent, with 18,729 passengers arriving at Nawililwili in February compared to the same period a year earlier.
Other negative counts include those of visitors from the western United States, a segment which is down 5.6 percent to 29,713 for February compared to February 2001, and visitor arrivals from Japan are down 29.2 percent in February compared to February 2001, with 8,822 arriving.
