Owners of 5.6 acres of land across Nuhou Road from the middle school plan to break ground soon on an 82-apartment rental project for senior citizens.
Regency at Puakea will be adjacent to Grove Farm’s planned Pikake residential subdivision, with many of the apartments featuring views of the Puakea Golf Course and the Hule’ia Mountains.
The complex, called a “community” by developer Regency Pacific, Inc., of Issaquah, Wash., will offer both independent and assisted-living apartments.
Regency Pacific received necessary zoning and other development approvals from the Kaua’i Planning Commission around two years ago, and have an informational public meeting set for Wednesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu’e.
Shioi Construction, Inc. is the general contractor.
The one- and two-story buildings will feature plantation-style architecture, and offer several apartment floor plans utilizing universally recognized senior design concepts.
The community will feature tropical landscaping and mountain views. The project is estimated to take 12 months to complete, and opening is planned for late spring of 2003.
A traditional Hawaiian blessing and groundbreaking ceremonies will be held at a future date not yet scheduled.
“We are very excited to bring Regency Pacific’s well-known personal touch to all communities of Kaua’i with this new project,” said Glenn Kaser, Regency Pacific’s vice president of development.
“It will bring a much-needed senior service facility to our island, giving residents many more options for living situations than they had before,” he added.
A venture of Regency at Puakea LLC (Limited Liability Company), the project will feature studios and one- or two-bedroom apartments with kitchens or kitchenettes in what the developers call “a home-like atmosphere.”
Residents will have amenities such as hosted dining, beauty and barber salon, ice cream parlor, library, computer center, activity and recreation rooms, fitness center, cable TV, swimming pool and spa and gardening areas.
For those residents who require basic assistance with activities of daily living, Regency at Puakea can accommodate them as well. A special unit for residents with memory impairments will also be available.
Available services will include 24-hour staffing and an emergency response system, one to three meals per day, weekly housekeeping and linen service, planned activities, and scheduled transportation.
Regency Pacific, Inc., which owns or manages over 40 other facilities, will manage Regency at Puakea. The company has managed Kauai Care Center in Waimea for over 18 years, and owns and operates a new 129-apartment retirement facility, Regency at Hualalai in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.
The company has over 2,000 employees and 30 years experience delivering high-quality, personalized services to seniors.
