The Kapa’a Warriors took 9 of 10 official matches from the Waimea Menehunes to claim victory in Saturday’s KIF Tennis match-up in Waimea. The Menehune’s only victory was in the first doubles, where Taryn Honma and Tracie Hayashi defeated Ashley Tunac and Tasha Haraguchi 6-1, 6-4.
In the first seat singles for girls, Warrior Serina Roush defeated Karen Sison 6-2, 6-1. In the second seat, Heather Medina fell to Shantelle DeMille in a hard fought 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 3-6 showdown.
In the first boys singles matchup, Cyrus Tumbaga fell to Kapa’a’s Ed Roessler 0-6, 2-6. Waimea’s Jeff Kakuda fell to Justin Nagai 3-6, 2-6 in the second.
In the first boys doubles, the Kyle Mahoney/AndrewWalpole duo outlasted Menehune Jerrick Fabro/Steven Fountain pair 7-5,6-4. Scott Rivera and Jerek Barcelona dropped to Kapa’a team Kia Tom and Garrett Danner 4-6, 3-6 in the second doubles match-up.
The Menehunes’ Taryn Honma/Tracie Hayashi duo topped Kapa’a’s Ashley Tunac and Tasha Haraguchi 6-1, 6-4 in the first girls doubles. But Jennifer Tambio and Beverly Mangayayam couldn’t make the double sweep, and fell to Ashley Valvieja and Raysha Sadang 4-6, 6-1, 3-6.
In the third doubles, Eric Newhouse and Corey Napoleon downed Waimea’s Darwin Tutop and Desmond Rodrigues 7-5, 7-5. For girls, Sara Nonaka and Jenny Morita lost to Warriors Shawna Tamayose and Jaclyn Filippe 3-6, 4-6.
In unofficial match play, Waimea doubles Cyrus Tumbaga and Peterson Delacruz beat Tommy Yoshida and Stephen Esaki 9-7.
Darwin Tutop and Desmond Rodrigues fell to Kapa’a’s Martin Antonio and Christian Cook 6-8. Scott Rivera and Jerek Barcelona got the 8-4 win over Jonathan Anderson and Cory Sokei.
Tiana Laranio and Nicolette Cuaresma outlasted Sara Nonak and Ivie Fujimura 9-7, while the Cieralyne Sherman/Reiko Ayabe combo beat the Eve Lampenfeld/Michelle Roush duo 8-4.
