Every once in awhile a person travels to Kaua’i from the mainland without any baggage.
But Saturday afternoon a bag evidently came to Kaua’i without a person.
Kaua’i police removed a bag from United Flight 33 Saturday afternoon at Lihu’e airport, after they were notified by federal officials in San Francisco that a baggage handler was being detained at SFO.
Flight 33 is a non-stop flight from San Francisco to Lihu’e.
Evidently, according to officials, a baggage handler at the San Francisco airport passed the bag to a second baggage handler, and asked him to put it on the plane.
The accommodating fellow did so but when the plane was in the air worried he had made a mistake and told his bosses.
Federal authorities called the Kaua’i Police, who took the bag off the plane when it arrived Saturday afternoon.
But dogs and screening gear showed nothing amiss, so police passed the bag through and waited.
No one came forward to claim it.
The bag, which has not been opened, will be taken to Honolulu today and opened by federal officers.
