Just as local analysts predicted, there were no Hawai’i stores on the list of 284 Kmart stores recently announced to be closed as the corporation struggles to emerge from bankruptcy. The closings will impact 22,000 associates, and will result in $550 million in savings this year, and $45 million a year after that.
The Big Kmart at Kukui Marketplace along Nawiliwili Road was not listed among the stores closing. None of the company’s Hawai’i stores are on the closing list, and the corporation earlier announced plans for a new O’ahu store.
