The Civil Service Commission has named Malcolm Fernandez the county’s new personnel director. Fernandez, a Safety Specialist with ITT Industries, is replacing Allan Tanigawa, who resigned to work on O’ahu. Between 1983 and 2000, Fernandez worked in the sugar industry.

Fernandez will begin working for the county on March 1, training under Tanigawa until his official first day at the helm alone on March 25.
Fernandez is a University of Hawai’i graduate.
He graduated from Waimea High School and attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa, earning a Bachelor in Business Administration in 1977.
He and his wife Marla live in Kekaha.
