The Puhi Wildcats, Westside Hornets and Kilauea each came out with victories Wednesday in the Boys 14-under series at Kilauea.
A Chad Nonaka trey and a pair of free throws in the final 19 seconds of the contest saw the Kings surge past the Hornets 28-25. The Kings, who were down nine points before the surge, conducted a final period onslaught which swarmed the Hornets opportunities to remain in the lead.
Barba and Brendan McDaniels topped the Hornets’ scoring with 8 markers each while Nonaka chalked up 10 points to lead the Kings.
The Kalaheo Pistons fell to the Puhi Wildcats 40-31 in the first game of boys Under-14 action in Kilauea.
The Wildcats staved off a strong second-half effort by the Pistons to take the win at the buzzer behind an impressive performance from scorcher Brandon Ballesteros.
Ballesteros notched 20 points for the Wildcats.
Alan Kaili topped the Pistons’ scoring with 12 points with Josh Bradbury adding 10 markers in the effort.
Kilauea got a comfortable win over Kapa’a in the final game on Wednesday.
They defeated Kapa’a 31-17 with help from Kahua Hollinger’s 10 points. Michael Lindsey notched 17 for Kapa’a.
The Girl’s 14-Under played last night in Kalaheo.
