Waimea’s Jordon Dizon added 14 to the six points he totalled before the rain-delay to lead the Menehunes to a 57-46 win over the Kapa’a Warriors in Tuesday night’s make-up game at Bernice Hundley gymnasium.
With the win, the Menehunes even their second round record of 2-1 with the Warriors, forcing a playoff this Friday night at 7:00 p.m in Kapa’a.
The Menehunes built on their 6-0 lead in the first with five straight points from guard Darwin Tutop and two buckets and a steal from Mark Andres.
Waimea led 16-6 after one.
The Warriors began to chip at the Menehune lead in the second.
Asher Cole, who led Warrior scorers with 14 points and three assists, torched the Menehunes with two buckets and a free-throw in the first four minutes of the period to climb Kapa’a to within one.
But then Dizon turned it up, and Waimea never looked back.
The Menehune forward notched 11 points in the final minutes of the half and Waimea held a 32-24 lead heading into the third period.
The Menehunes’ Desmond Rodrigues committed a potentially hazardous technical foul to help Kapa’a chip into the lead to 39-33 in the third, but Josh Vinzant and Austin Alquiza each chipped in a bucket to maintain a comfortable cushion for Waimea heading into the final period.
