Leiliwin K. Mahuiki-Denson, 25, believed to have fallen from an automobile on Kaua’i last Sunday, died Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. at Queens Medical Center on Oahu.
An autopsy performed by the Honolulu medical examiner determined the official cause of death to be cerebral hemorrhage. officials reported.
Mahuiki-Denson was pregnant at the time of her death, according to family members. The child did not survive.
According to authorities, Mahuiki-Denson was a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on Kapule Highway at about 4 a.m. Sunday when the driver, her husband, discovered she was missing.
He said he drove back to look for his wife and found her on the highway just north of the Rice Street and Kapule Highway intersection, Kaua’i County Police said.
She was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and then emergency-flown to Queens for more treatment.
Assistant police chief Gordon Isoda said a joint investigation of the incident by homicide and traffic safety investigators is continuing.
