Gabrielle is a transformer very different from the cartoon character and toy of the same name.
Formerly an interior designer with Aloha Furniture Warehouse, Gabrielle transformed the former Rice Street business (now on ‘Umi Street) into a leading tropical showroom, and has worked her magic at countless island homes, and a Kapa’a retail location as well.
She recently struck out on her own, and has opened Gabrielle EastWest Interiors on Lehua Street in Kapa’a. From there, she was immediately commissioned to transform the adjacent showroom of Lehua Design Center.
The center now offers a rare collection of Asian antiques and primitives, along with plush, slip-covered, down-filled sofas and chairs with one-of-a-kind fabric combinations created by the designer.
“I love space transformation,” says Gabrielle. “Even clearing a space and rearranging what a client already has is an opportunity to make the space the best it can be, and enhance someone’s life,” said the designer, who is a student of feng shui and also consults a feng shui master when the need arises.
Prior to moving to Kaua’i, Gabrielle designed commercial interiors in major shopping centers on all the islands. On the mainland, she was recognized in major publications from coast to coast as a young innovator, for her unique home and art studio.
The recognition led to a career designing interiors for model homes and condominiums nationwide.
At home on Kaua’i, she understands the importance of everyone’s personal space.
“During this critical time in history, our personal environment, and the environment we offer our visitors attempting to escape from ‘it all,’ is more important than ever,” she feels.
“I’m committed to utilize materials and colors to create harmonious environments that uplift the spirit, soothe the mind, comfort the body, and reflect the beauty of Hawai’i,” she continued.
“I save my clients energy, money, hours, and even days of shopping. I assess their space, help determine their needs, and work through to completion from a total renovation, creating a whole new interior, to simply shopping for a few items,” she said.
“I have gathered a team of talented and dependable artisans, from contractors to floral arrangers,” she said, and recently returned from trips to Los Angeles and San Francisco to be introduced to the latest trends and resources.
“I have access to all types of furniture, custom furnishings, and interior specifications including bamboo building materials and even bamboo houses; wall coverings, tile, granite, and floor and window treatments from all our local vendors, to imported, high-end collections,” she said.
An associate member of the Interior Design Society, Gabrielle is in the front office of the Lehua Design Center, 4585 Lehua St., and can be reached for appointments and more information at 652-1915.
