Patrick Conroy, risk manager for King & Neel, Inc., leads a four-hour class on prevention of falls set for Saturday, Feb. 9.
Conroy has over 30 years of experience in the field of safety training.
Falls injure and kill thousands of construction workers each year, oftentimes because they have not followed basic safety rules when using ladders, scaffolding, or fall protection techniques and systems, according to the Contractors Association of Kaua’i, which sponsors the class.
Thousands of other people in general industry are seriously injured as a result of improper use of ladders, prompting the association to offer the course, Fall Protection: Step by Step.
Participants will learn how to choose the right ladder for every job, how to spot damaged ladders, how to properly set up a ladder, and how to work safely while on a ladder.
A segment of the training will include the proper way of erecting steel scaffolds.
The training will also cover competent-person requirements for fall protection for both HIOSH (Hawai’i Occupational Safety and Health Division of the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations) and OSHA (federal Office of Safety and Health Administration) standards.
For more information or to register for the class, please call Karen at the Contractors Association of Kaua’i office, 246-2662. Pre-registration is required.
