The Waimea Menehunes swept the Kapa’a boy’s Junior Varsity and Varsity teams last night at Vidinha Stadium. The Menehunes also won in the JV girl’s game, 1-0, but they fell 4-1 to the Varsity Warriors.
In a game highlighted by the impressive defensive play of both Waimea goalie Curtis Kimura and fullback Chris Patricio, forward Evan Agor notched two goals for the Menehunes – one early in the first and another early in the second – to capture a 2-1 victory over the Kapa’a Warriors in varsity play. The Warriors got a boost late in the second, a floater from Keala Swain, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Menehunes, who handed Kapa’a their first loss of the KIF season.
In the varsity girls game, Kapa’a won 4-1 with first half goals from Kapa’a’s Jackie Hutger, a corner kick over the goalie’s head, and Waimea’s Janna Soto. The score was 1-1 at the half.
Kapa’a’s Jasmine Stevenson scored the Warrior’s second goal in the second half, Melissa Nebre scored the third on a breakaway shot, and Nicho Kunioka – Volz scored the last goal.
In JV action, the Waimea boys beat Kapa’a 1-0 on a Joshua Cabral solo goal, and the Waimea girls defeated Kapa’a by the same score, 1-0, on a goal from Jacie Ipac. Chantelle Briones recorded the assist on the goal.
