In part as a result of the construction of a world-class convention center in Waikiki, and greater attention being paid to the importance of meetings, conventions and incentive group travel (MCI), Hawai’i has leaped from 11th to second as a preferred North American site for meetings and conventions. According to a recent poll of major meeting and convention planners and decision-makers, the state moved from 11th in 1999 to second this year, when 40 major North American destination sites were considered.
While most major meetings in Hawai’i take place on O’ahu, the other islands including Kaua’i get their share of pre- and post-convention visitors.
