So it was a photo contest, and not an essay contest, that was held with the people attending the recent Koloa Plantation Days at Anne Knudsen Park serving as the judges.
The Magic and Majesty of Maha’ulepu contest drew competitors in professional, amateur and youth categories.
Kalima Leong of Kapa’a won first prize in the keiki division, taking home a dinner gift certificate from Brennecke’s Beach Broiler. Runnerup Mike Cummings won a t-shirt from Pohaku T’s.
Sara DeZereg of Koloa won a gift certificate from Joe’s on the Green in the amateur division.
Carol Ann Davis of Po’ipu took the professional division and its prize of dinner at Keoki’s Paradise for her portrayal of the beach and the Gillian residence, with Ha’upu rising in the distance.
Davis also helped set up the contest display and showed her images of the closing of the Koloa mill.
