Masayo Okano of Wailua Homesteads, Kaua’i, died at home on Oct. 1, 2001, at the age of 79.
Bornin Honolulu, O’ahu, on Nov. 20, 1921, she was a retired custodian with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by two sons: Gerald (Ruby) Okano of Pearl City, O’ahu; Bryan (Nancine) Okano of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; two daughters: Merle (Athey) Spence of Kapa’a, Kaua’i and Laraine (Steven) Yamashita of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Thomas (Peggy) Nishimitsu of Kapa’a, Kaua’i and Kenneth (Yasuko) Nishimitsu of Valinda, Calif.; three sisters: Betsy Ferreiro of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, Doris (Charles) Hoch of Las Vegas, Nev., and Claire (Lloyd) Tanabe of Westminster, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private. Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
