Ronald Finney, who escaped from police custody two months ago in Lihu’e, has been captured by authorities in Virginia.
Finney, 23, was picked up last week at his mother’s house as the result of a Crimestoppers tip. Crimestoppers is a Kaua’i County Police and Kaua’i Chamber of Commerce program that offers rewards for information leading to arrests of criminal suspects.
“We are going to extradite him” back to Hawai’i, Kaua’i County Police Lt. Alvin Seto said Monday.
Meanwhile, another escaped felon, Bradley Pundyke, 41, of Hanamaulu, continues to elude Kaua’i authorities.
Finney was being taken to police headquarters in Lihu’e Aug. 27 when he broke away, ran down Hardy Street and across Rice Street, and disappeared from view behind the Rice Street Shopping Center.
He was already charged with felony burglary and now will face an additional charge of felony escape, according to Craig De Costa, the county’s chief deputy prosecutor.
Pundyke escaped Oct. 6 from Kaua’i Community Correctional Center, where he was serving time on a misdemeanor charge. He was on the jail’s outside livestock detail, according to authorities, because although he faced a trial on a felony firearms charge, he was incarcerated on a misdemeanor charge of family abuse.
Authorities have said Pundyke is potentially dangerous.
