Sharon Y. Nonaka won a round-trip for two to Las Vegas, the grand prize at blessing and dedication ceremonies of the new building of the Kaua’i Government Employees Federal Credit Union.
Jerry Silva, Seichi Matsushige and Peter H. Souza won interisland trips, and Kristine Sison won a cash prize of $100 donated by Doug Baker of Baker Construction, the general contractor for the new building.
Located at 2976 ‘Ewalu St. near Rice Street and Kaua’i Toyota, the site hosted around 350 members and business associates during the blessing. Lea Kai and The ‘Ohana provided entertainment during the lu’au following the blessing.
Ed Medeiros, KGCFCU general manager and chief executive officer, said the construction process was long and sometimes frustrating. But it finally got finished.
Pastor Ryan Claytor of Lihu’e Missionary Church provided the blessing of the new building, saying the beautiful facility will play an important role in the future of the credit union.
It is the spiritual, social and professional values of the employees, volunteers and their families, though, that will provide the foundation for the continued success of the credit union, Claytor said.
Membership is open to federal, state and county employees and retirees and their immediate families.
Charter members Abel Medeiros, Mac Medeiros, Narciso Ver and John Ilalaole were on hand for the festivities.
Volunteers who sit on various credit, management and other advisory committees include Leon Gonsalves, president, and Dennis Ikehara, Ken Villabrille, Eugene Jimenez, Amy Tanihiro, Anita Aquino, Pat Layosa, Delores Kaauwai, Asako Iwamoto, Evelyn Branco, Merly Cruz, Rosalyn Nobriga, Amy Esaki, John Calma and others.
