Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific (REHAB) recently celebrated the grand opening of its second Kaua’i clinic, in Kalaheo’s Rainbow Plaza along Kaumuali’i Highway.
The new location, REHAB at Kalaheo, is positioned to service the west Kaua’i community. It offers specialized rehabilitation programs and services, like vestibular rehabilitation.
Vestibular rehabilitation addresses dizziness, balance, and decreased activity levels resulting from conditions such as labyrinthitis and bilateral or vestibular dysfunction.
REHAB at Kapa’a, on the grounds of the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, opened in March of this year, and serves the east side.
“Part of REHAB’s mission is to keep in touch with Kaua’i’s needs to ensure that rehab services are accessible throughout the island,” said Bill O’Connor, REHAB chief executive officer.
In addition to individualized care for patients, REHAB at Kalaheo offers REHAB Work Health, an expanded occupational health program that emphasizes prevention of work-related injuries through comprehensive site assessments, training and education.
REHAB Work Health also helps employers to ensure a safe work environment, comply with state and federal regulations and reduce the number of injuries suffered by employees.
“At REHAB at Kalaheo, we offer physical and occupational therapy services to Kaua’i’s south and west side residents, eliminating the need to travel for appointments,” said Rose Murtagh, supervisor of REHAB’s Kaua’i clinics.
“We provide therapy for a variety of diagnoses, and most insurance. We specialize in recovery from car and work accidents, sports injuries, sprains and strains, aches and pains,” she said.

Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific and its 14 clinics statewide offer customized inpatient and outpatient treatment programs covering all aspects of rehabilitation.
The hospital treats disabilities caused by stroke, brain injury, spinal-cord injury and amputation. REHAB also treats orthopedic injuries such as fractures and arthritis, and offers general rehabilitation for patients with prolonged neurological disorders.
The organization has Hawai’i’s only inpatient rehabilitation facility, providing a comprehensive team approach to therapy.
Physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, recreational therapists, dietitians and case managers all work together to create a customized treatment program for each patient.
