KGA doing volunteer work at Wailua
The Kaua’i Golf Association will be continuing its Saturday weeding activity on July 7 at Wailua Golf Course.
KGA members took up the cause a couple of weeks ago, and are scheduled to weed every Saturday until August 11 at Wailua. The weeding runs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and is a volunteer activity.
Participants are reminded to bring their own weeding tools, preferably mini machete-type knives. No picks or hoes.
The KGA is made up of 45 golf clubs with approximately 850 members.

Kaua’i High School pool closed for now
The Kaua’i High School swimming pool will be closed until further notice due to mechanical problems with the pump.
State personnel will contact the County of Kaua’i as soon as the problem is resolved. Questions should be directed to Keala Kai, pool supervisor, at 241-6668.

West Kaua’i 0-2 at Bronco tourney
The 2001 Hawai’i Region Bronco (age 11-12) Baseball Tournament began Wednesday at the Maehara Baseball Stadium in Wailuku, Maui.
On Wednesday, the Garden Island’s representative, West Kaua’i lost 7-6 to Maui Blue. Thursday, West Kaua’i fell to Mililani A 10-2.
West Kaua’i took a 4-0 lead Wednesday, and led 5-2 after five innings. But Maui uncorked four runs in the top of the sixth, and one in the top of the seventh for the come-from-behind victory.
Kaua’i pounded out 11 hits, led by Quinton Natividad’s home run and single. Kaua’i left six men on base.
West Kaua’i got singles from Mason Lorenzo (2), Breden Hew, Nevin Resquer-Yorkman (3), Drew Ueno and Troy Yamase. Braden Hiraoka got a double.
Thursday, West Kaua’i went ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning against Mililani. It then fell behind 2-1 after a mini Mililani rally in the fifth.
But West Kaua’i could not hold back the dam in the seventh, as Mililani unleashed an eight-run inning that put the game out of reach.
West Kaua’i managed just three hits against its opponent, though it did leave seven runners on base.
The hits were registered by Kylan Gandia, Bradley Frasco and Troy Yamase.
